My research examines the causes, content, and consequences of cultural attitudes, stereotypes, and beliefs about social groups across development. One of my current lines of research investigates the impact of media exposure on intergroup bias and behavior across development. In a CCCR-funded project, Dr. Riggs and I are examining the effect of exemplar gender and gender stereotypes on children’s math learning from textbooks. Another ongoing project in this line of work examines the impact of nonverbal behavior cues from television on children’s racial bias. My other main line of research examines the development of beliefs about inequality. In another CCCR-funded project, Dr, McLean and I are exploring parent conversations with their children about racial and wealth inequality. An additional ongoing project in this line of work examines the relationship between attributions for inequality and beliefs about housing access.
