About

Broadly, my research on developmental psychopathology encompasses understanding the role of family in the development, maintenance, and treatment of psychological disorders in childhood, such as depression, autism and self-harming behaviors. I also examine disparities in access to mental health care for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals. I incorporate multi-method approaches to my research and am especially fond of behavioral observations and interviews.

One of my current collaborative projects seeks to better understand BIPOC and LGBTQ+ student experiences with reaching out for help in schools, their perspectives on school counseling services, and the effectiveness of school counselors during high school. A current individual CCCR project examines why BIPOC children with autism do not receive a timely and accurate autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis.  Of particular interest is better understanding how ASD diagnoses are associated with family culture and the ways in which providers diagnosing children develop culturally collaborative relationships with families.
